Confession: Why I create Art Collections that look nothing like each other

I’ve been told my art should be more unified; to pick one look and stick with it. But to me, besides that feeling restrictive, it would contradict the very reason why I create. You see, my artwork is directly inspired by what I’m experiencing or striving towards in a certain season of life, and it’s constantly evolving. Since 2020, I’ve been on a deep dive into personal development, and each series is a symbolic expression of a lesson from that period, requiring different materials and substrates to communicate the feeling. For example:

✨Understanding how my energy impacts all things and people around us and that we can consciously choose it? Enter the “Own Your Aura” Collection ^

🧘 Snapping out of a life on autopilot and stepping into mindful awareness? That would be the “Constructs of the Mind” Collection ^

🥳 How about finding joy in the little things? That’s “Everyday Yay” all the way ^

👣 Paying attention to my gut and making decisions one step at a time from a place of alignment? You guessed it: “Road to Alignment” Collection ^

🐍 Confronting and shedding my old patterns of people-pleasing, to make room for our newer, leveled-up self? “Floodgates” Collection ^

😎 Shutting out the noise and self-regulating by sourcing balance and calm from within? “hoMEostasis” Collection ^

📝 Openly rambling about the kind of person I want to embody? The vulnerable “Notes to Self Collection ^

When I look back on my art, I see the lessons I was ingraining at that time, and the empowering messages I wanted to share with others. So, it’s not about getting bored, or not knowing my voice. To the contrary, this exploration IS me actively expressing my voice. It is precisely what draws me into the studio to pick up a brush. It is my release for that moment in time, my outlet for processing, and my contribution to connect with others.

Right now is the incubation time between Collections, which generally release every Spring and Fall. It is when I reflect, go inward, and listen to what resonates. I love seeing what will bubble up and guide me for the next series. With every collection, I seem to get closer to knowing myself.
